CBS Sports teamed up with the Flavorlab Sound to create An exciting soccer promo.
CBS SPORTS’ UEFA Europa League soccer Promo follows the players, the action and a bunch of wild fans as the journey for the crown begins.
“The Crown” is just about the most intriguing phrase for the fans, so you can imagine our excitement when our friend, Jeff Lonigro, CBS Sports EP, asked if we would help with the sound design and mix. (Sidenote: Jeff has been a Flavorlab customer for 15 years!) His ask? A mix, sound design and an exciting arc. We couldn’t wait to get started!
Process
The promo needed some original sound design to ramp up the excitement, Head butts and Penalty Shots. We had to keep the excitement and energy through out the spot. Brian Quill, the mixer and sound designer, wanted lots of crowd and action sounds. That needed to be layered, too. The challenge was to twist all of it into the twenty and thirty second promos.
Finding the raw sounds was a blast. Because we have recorded plenty of custom sound effects while discovering objects we found around the studio over the years. These sounds that could accompany footage of exciting sports events. Of course, real soccer balls were involved. If you listen really carefully, you’ll hear them.
SWEET SPOT
This job was right in our sweet spot. We always love working with old friends (Jeff,Felipe) and making new ones (Brittany) while we’re at it. All of us are grateful for how varied our projects have been over the years. The genres are always changing. The variation of the jobs and our friendship makes our work feel like play. Can’t wait to see what project comes along next. Finally we’ll keep you posted.
