A Very Flavorlab Christmas

Flavorlab dusted off the sleigh bells for a jam packed holiday season

In the world of post production, nothing says Yuletide cheer like sunburn and lazy heat. It’s no exception here at Flavorlab. In July, the team’s work began on the audio magic for your on-screen holiday season. Flavorlab Sound kicked off the cheer, providing sound design and mix for Hallmark’s Christmas at Pemberley Manor, A Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane, and Lifetime’s A Very Nutty Christmas.

“It’s sort of like Santa’s workshop. Work Christmas is the flurry of crunching footsteps in the snow & hymns in the hallway that hopefully add to Christmases at home.”

Eric Stern, audio engineer

In September, they were in Lab 2 cracking nuts and crinkling wreaths before descending into mixing. Initially, Producer’s Toolbox was asked to license one track for Hallmark’s Honeysuckle Lane. Soon, they were tasked with all music supervision on the film. They dug up dozens of vintage Christmas tunes. Then, they categorized these tracks into sections. Finally, they narrowed down the tracks with the production team.

“Christmas music is often public domain so it’s big with music libraries. It was a lot of material to work through in not a lot of time, but the process was super collaborative.”

Ricky Holman, director of licensing

By December, rounding out the season just before the holiday, Flavorlab Score provided a tune for Samantha Bee’s Christmas on I.C.E. They penned the vintage style winter bop “Frost Bee the Snow Woman.” Happy Holidays to all of you from the Flavorlab team!
