Flavorlab’s Immersive Sound Design for The Life Force

Sound as Skin: Flavorlab Gives Voice to The Life Force

An immersive sound design experience built for intimacy, vulnerability, and the body in tension — now open at the Museum of Sex, New York.

NEW YORK, NY — April 2026

Flavorlab, the New York-based sound design and audio production studio, is proud to announce the completion of its original immersive sound design exhibition for The Life Force: Portraits from the Amparo & Manuel Foundation. The exhibition is now on view at the Museum of Sex through October 18, 2026.

A Sonic World Built for Vulnerability

Above all, the creative challenge was precise. Flavorlab needed to translate desire, identity, and vulnerability into sound — without losing depth in the process.

To meet that challenge, Flavorlab worked closely with the Museum of Sex and the Fundación Amparo & Manuel (AMMA). Together, the team built an audio world as intimate as the artwork on the walls. As a result, the piece holds the same tension between Eros and Thanatos that defines the exhibition itself.

In particular, voice casting, recording, and immersive sound design became the pillars of the project. Consequently, Flavorlab’s contribution moves through the exhibition like a second nervous system. Meanwhile, each sonic layer amplifies what paint, sculpture, and drawing can only suggest on their own — the interior conditions made visible in the work of Tracey Emin, Lisa Yuskavage, Sarah Lucas, and more than 30 artists from around the globe.

What the Client Says

Flavorlab collaborated with Mariana Gomez of Proyecto Amparín throughout the project, spanning teams in New York, Mexico City, and Paris. Here’s what she had to say about the experience.

Why AMMA chose Flavorlab:

“We approached you because of your expertise in sound design; the projects you’ve been involved in gave us a clear sense of the incredible quality of your work.”

The creative collaboration:

“You supported us from the very beginning and were involved at every stage, ensuring the final result met expectations. It was truly a great learning experience and very enjoyable to develop together.”

Working across three cities:

“The international collaboration brought diverse perspectives and enriched the project significantly, giving it a truly global character.”

Reflecting on the partnership:

“Working with the team was a wonderful experience from the start. Beyond your professionalism, your kindness made the entire process flow seamlessly — it really felt like a close, collaborative partnership. Thank you for all your support and passion throughout the project!” — Mariana Gomez, Proyecto Amparín

The project also brought together creative direction from Bahia Alecki, Directrice artistique at Studiobingo.co, whose collaboration helped shape the exhibition’s visual and sonic identity across the New York, Mexico City, and Paris teams.
