Synopsis
The film follows Harry Markopolos and his associates as they seek action from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and others. Over the course of ten years, the group met with the SEC on investigative proof they’d gathered on Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. Madoff scammed an estimated $18 billion, or $65 billion. This included fake returns, from investors. Despite nearly a decade of meetings, the SEC ignored Markopolos and his associates or only gave the evidence a cursory investigation. The film includes interviews with members of the investigation. It also takes a look at the team’s evidence and how Madoff, eventually, got caught. He was convicted on March 12th, 2009, on multiple counts of fraud.
