Flavorlab Engineers Bobby Alcott’s Vocals for Leonid & Friends

Flavorlab audio engineering is back on a standout new release — the second one now. We lent our ears to Bobby Alcott’s vocal performances for Leonid & Friends, starting with a cover of Blood, Sweat & Tears’ classic “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy.”

The track pairs a timeless, horn-driven anthem with a vocal performance that does it justice. Flavorlab’s team handled the audio engineering on Bobby Alcott’s vocal session. We captured a performance clean and powerful enough to hold its own against Leonid & Friends’ signature big-band arrangement. A Classic Tune, A Killer Vocal Performance

Blood, Sweat & Tears first popularized “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” in 1969. Leonid & Friends bring fresh energy to the arrangement while honoring the original’s soul. Bobby Alcott’s vocal take is the emotional center of the recording. Capturing that performance cleanly and powerfully was the goal. We made every decision with that in mind, from mic selection through gain staging during tracking.

Great vocal engineering starts at the source. A well-captured take makes everything downstream easier, and this session met that standard. Flavorlab holds every artist who walks through the door to the same bar.

Round Two: “Someday (August 29, 1968)”

Bobby Alcott is back with Leonid & Friends, and Flavorlab engineered his vocals again. The new track is “Someday (August 29, 1968),” a Chicago cover released on September 4, 2026. Leonid Vorobyev produced, mixed, and mastered it, while Alcott sings lead.

Chicago originals sit in a tricky spot for a vocalist. The horns are dense and the arrangement keeps moving. Consequently, the vocal has to cut through without being pushed into the red. We tracked with exactly that in mind, so the take had the headroom to sit forward in a very full mix.

Two songs in, the pattern is clear. Alcott brings the performance, and Flavorlab makes sure nothing gets in its way.
