Eight minutes, thirty singles, and one contestant. Singled Out, once a popular 90s dating show on MTV, has arrived, once again, to help lonely people find love. Flavorlab Sound provided audio post for the series which launched April 6th on Quibi. The app specializes in made-for-phone content 10 minutes or shorter. Given Singled Out’s fast paced format, the show fits right in on the platform.
With hosts Keke Palmer and Joel Kim Booster, the series maintains the familiar fun Jenny McCarthy and Chris Hardwick brought to the original. The 2020 reboot dusts off its pre-Y2K cobwebs to embrace dating in the digital age. From describing a great first date, to sliding into those DMs, the show embraces every way one can make a first impression. A more inclusive offering, contestants fall all over the spectrum. Instead of strangers, suitors can be old flames, Instagram followers, or coworkers harboring secret crushes.
Flavorlab Sound provided full mix and sound design for the series. With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the prospect of lockdowns were looming as post production drew to a close. The team completed the season just before New York City ordered its shelter-in-place. Quibi’s launched on time and the app is faring well during a time of increased streaming.
