The Nine Lives of Marion Barry

The Nine Lives of Marion Barry is available on Amazon.

The Nine Lives of Marion Barry premiered April 10th. Flavorlab Score‘s Erik Blicker and Glenn Schloss composed the documentary’s soundtrack. Brian Quill of Flavorlab Sound provided mix.

The documentary follows the life of notorious D.C. mayor, Marion Barry. Hated by some as a poster boy for corruption. Heralded by others as a civil rights champion. Between drug addiction, divorce, and jail time, he remained a fierce defender of the poor. One thing is certain, Barry transformed Washington D.C. from a sleepy southern town to a political stronghold for Black America.

The composers drew on sounds of each decade. A politician of the people, genre choice leaned harder on popular music than the usual political fare. Giving us a different side of our nation’s capitol, the score trades triumphant and patriotic orchestra for dark and groovy guitar. In Barry’s more honest moments, light, melancholy, and spacious piano. The score occupies as many moods as sides to Barry’s personality.

“The tale of a complex and contradictory man who is the star of one of the most fascinating and bizarre chapters of American politics.”
