Meet The Couple Inspiring Others To Conquer Their Most Audacious Dreams

Joan Baker and Rudy Gaskins are co-founders of the Society of Voice Arts & Sciences (SOVAS), and creators / co-hosts of the podcast series “Get Out There”: a fun, inspiring, and informative series designed to motivate listeners to reach for their most audacious dreams. Flavorlab worked with the couple on all things audio for the podcast, recording and mixing each episode live in the studio as well as composing the original theme music and intro audio reel. We sat down with Joan and Rudy to reflect on the ongoing project and its impact.

Flavorlab ‘Gets Out There’ With Podcast Series

SOVAS’s “Get Out There” is a fun, inspiring, and informative series featuring success stories and tips from top Voiceover artists and other industry professionals. The podcast demands a diverse set of audio skills, requiring a team effort across Flavorlabs’ multiple divisions. Joan and Rudy wanted the project to have a sonic identity, so Erik Blicker and Glenn Schloss of Flavorlab Score worked to create a theme, show package and ID to reflect the “positive, vibrant aesthetic of the hosts”. Glenn formulated the sonic ID by aggregating voices of many of the show’s guests (as well as his wife and kids) atop a bed of sound effects to produce a multilayered, cascading segment.

PBS approached Flavorlab Score to create a custom music package for their “Best of Indies” series,  highlighting the best independent documentaries released through PBS. Jeffrey Hughes, Creative Services Director for PBS, asked for underlying theme music that could be adapted to fit the aesthetic of each documentary showcased. In this way, the music is the glue helping to unify the works together into a cohesive final product.
